Right now, you just answered your own question here. Mike Grier is one of the top defensive forwards in the NHL, while Jarome Iginla is one of the top ten players in the league, period. All time, Grant Fuhr and Tony McKegnie are the best black NHL players of all time.

Up and coming: Chris Stewart (Colorado), Nigel Dawes (New York), Kenndal McArdle (Florida)

An addendum- 288, Grier is actually much better than the aforementioned Laraque and Brashear. THOSE are the fourth line fillers on their respective teams, while Grier is a sometime secondliner (who gets regular turns on the third line) who was one of the few Sharks to step it up during the post season last year. While the top guys take a breather? Grier happens to be one of the top guys!

Addendum #2- 288, Grier was part of that outstanding shutdown line in Edmonton with Todd Marchant and Ethan Moreau. The third line back in that day was one of the best defensive units in the NHL, and helped propell the Oilers into the playoffs on a few occasions. Grier's solid efforts parlayed employment in Washington, Buffalo, and San Jose (each stop he was well respected by teammates and fans alike).

I'd agree with Iginla and Mike Grier. Iginla is the best for obvious reasons. Mike Grier might not show up on the score sheet, but he may be the best penalty killer the Sharks have ever had. He's a smart player and gets many shorthanded opportunities. If he had a better shot, he would be incredible.

If we're counting 1/2 black players, Iginla and Emery. Iginla is one of the best players all around in the league, and Emery is already a solid NHL goalie and still improving. I'd put Mike Grier at #3.

To the guy above me who slammed Grier: Do you actually play hockey yourself? I would guess not, because it seems that you don't understand the finer points of the game. Grier's game isn't pretty but he's a great defensive forward. He kills penalties (not an easy thing to do), and can be a decently effective power forward when given the opportunity (although the Sharks don't need that because of power forwards like Thornton, Michalek, Bernier, etc.). Also, he still scores about 15 goals a season despite getting very little (if any) PP time and only about 15 minutes/game in ice time (with 3 or 4 minutes short-handed). Every team needs a couple of role players like that.

Iginla, Emery, Grier. Im a sharks fan so I see Grier play a lot. Every single day I see him come out and give his very best. Thats all you can ask for.

The other two are self explanatory

CC65-You saw Grier play last night and you werent impressed?? Are you joking? He was the best player on the ice. Every time his line was out there he dominated!!! What game were you watching????

After I saw Grier play last nite, I was not impressed. I would have to say George LaRoque (sorry 4 the mis-spell) Does Dale Craigwell still play? Probably not. Sorry, I have been asleep. What about the goalie for Ottawa, Emery?

Iginla and Emery. But I have respect to Willie O'Ree, the first black hockey player. He played for the Bruins in 1958.

Iginla and Emery but a player who was very good, not sure if he plays any more, Peter Worrell
Reply: Georges LaReque (I'm not sure on spelling either) is very good as well, also how about Fred Braithwaite
