Have you ever read a nutrition label? And it says "3 grams fat"? It would be awfully a lot if it was 3 textbooks or 3 baseballs. Even one would be way too much. And three grains of sand is like 3 bread crumbs weight, which is pretty much nothing. So remember that a gram is about the weight of a Lego.

O.o odd question methinks... the paperclips are the only things even close. As a reference, a nickel is 5 cents, and also right about 5 grams. Easy to remember, and good for a mental comparison for questions like these in the future.
