I have a 1995 ford ranger, 3.0L with an auto transmission. On cold mornings, it takes about 10 seconds to go into reverse, and the overdrive light flickers on and off when it finally engages. After that the truck barely runs, so i have to put it in park and shut it off, then start it again and wait for it to get warmed up.

I have read that it could be the transmission valve body, but i have no idea where that is or how difficult it would be to repair/replace. Does anyone know, or can you think of what else could be causing my problem?

I don't think the transmision fluid is leaking... the level is fine.

It sounds as if your torque converter could have some issues. I would talk to a GOOD Ford garage, actually go in and talk with their mechanics, find out what type of fluid they wold recommend putting in. I would say a thinner tran fluid would help.

Best of Luck!
