Remember when he was at the wedding in Cana and his mother asked him to do something about the wine? He told her it wasn't his time yet, but he did it anyway. He had a clear picture of how all this was to work out. After the transfiguration, he did not go around telling people, or letting other people tell, that he was the Messiah. He wanted to go through his death and resurrection first, which would prove who he was. Those are my thoughts on it. I may be wrong!
