I have an easy way to figure percentages. I figure out what 10% is and then multiply times 3. 10% of 270 is 27. Then multiply 27 times 3 = 1
You can also look at percentages as a dollar bill. For instance 10% of 1 dollar is 10¢.
10% of 2 dollars is 20¢.

Multiply 270 by 30 and divide the result by 100.
If you were asked, "What is 40 % of 60?" you would follow the same procedure. Multiply 60 by 40 and divide the result by 100.
