Turn it over, twist the cap off, and take out the ball and see if the little rollers have lint and junk on them. If so, you have 2 choices. #1 - Clean the ball and rollers and mouse pad and reassemble it. Or #2 - Get a good optical mouse and come back and cut the tail off the other. That way you know it's dead. Then give it a decent burial in a waste basket.

Miss Ellie, after cleaning the ball inside if it still messes up the cord might be bad. I got a optical mouse from wal mart less than $10.00 really like it.
Jim
Not only clean the ball but the rollers inside.

You can clean them you know. Take out the ball and the little rollers inside the main piece will most likely be gunked up, so clean them off and you should be Ok.
Better yet go get an optical mouse and you wont have any problems with it.

Even though PT wouldn't touch your mouse problem I will!! That's just the kind of girl I am!! Hehe!! Remove the ball and clean the ball and rollers, if that doesnt work, smack it against the table top (this usually works for me) then if that doesn't work, then it's time to send it to mouse heaven and visit the nearest WalMart!! I got an extra if you want it!!

I would clean that one and at the first opportunity purchase an optical mouse. They never get gunked up and they are much more accurate you can pick up an optical and clean it with tip of your finger.

I take mine apart and clean with rubbing alcohol.
Good Luck. It doesn't always work. Maybe it's time for a new one. I'm asking for a new one for Christmas!
