Do these kind of crimes deserve equal punishment when a death is involved?

How do you feel about the way the law currently treats these offences?

It varies from state to state. Those are two crimes that the U.S. Constitution leave up to the individual state to decide. The state of Arizona has a conceal and carry law. Gun deaths are low in Arizona. Everybody has to go through an extensive background check before they are even considered for the permit. Plus, a perp never knows if the person he/ she is about attack has a weapon. According to the Constitution, first degree murder is punishable by execution, though most states don't that anymore. Recieving a dui is a sticky subject. In Arizona, a person recieving a dui is liable to jail the first time. Now if he kills someone while drunk driving, most states only push for vehicular mansluaghter, which is punishable by 5- 10 years in prison. Do I believe these crimes should get the same punishment? Absolutely not. If a drunk driver sits in prison for 5- 10 years, he will thank about the family he just destroyed, and probably not do it again. However a first degree murderer will probably do it again and again. Just for the fun of it.

Every car should have an interlock device. No drunk driving after that.

AS far as gun crime is concerned, I like Chris Rocks' solution...bullets cost $5,000 each.

Well I personally feel that there should NOT be laws for DUI's or gun related crimes. I believe BOTH should automatically be a MURDER or ATTEMPTED MURDER charge, period. NO EXCEPTIONS. Both are weapons that are capable of taking human life.

I think what is done is more important than what it's done /with/, so yeah, if you intentionally run someone over and kill them, it should be no different than intentionally shooting someone and killing them. Same with accident, and, yes, an accident precipitated by a willfully assumed altered state of consicousness is less of an accident. Depending on the circumstances, I should think it could constitute 'depraved indifference' (murder 2).

we don't need more gun control, we need to stop making allowances for kids and treat them like adults no matter how young they are.
the only way dui's are going to go down is if we do two things:

1) raise the driving age to 21

2) permanently revoke driver's licenses with no exceptions for congress and the senate. they can get cabs like the rest of us and in the cases like the kennedys pay for limos.
