Egypt is an agricultural country. Practically speaking it does not rain in Egypt, when it does it is very seldom and is not enough. To be able to use the water of the Nile river peasants must first lift the water from the basin of the Nile which is a hard task, then they must have canals or a net of canals to provide the fields with water. Water wheels are used but they provide water that is not plenty and after much work all day long. The similarity between a thirsty field and a lover who suffers from neglect or separation is strong.
In the country side when they write a letter they start by saying: I miss you as a plant misses water. I used to write letters from my nanny to her relatives in the country side since she could not do it herself and she dictated me what to write, this was one of her favorite sentences. So thirst has become associated with longing. In songs they will not speak of thirsty plants of course they depict the similarity between longing and being thirsty. This is what I think.

Cute question! hehehe I assume you have never been in love since you are asking this, or am I wrong? Anyway, if you really love someone and you miss them, the emotions and the psychological state of the mind are reflected on your body. You actually get real physical sensations. Your body aches for your loved one to come and fill that void you are suffering from. It is actually worse than thirst and hunger. Those can be endured for quite a while, but the absence of a beloved can be sheer hell at times.

I don't think it's exclusive to our songs only. I can't recall any specific song right now, but I 'm sure that there are some songs in English in which the singer "hungers for the touch" of the beloved, or needs the "thirst" to be quenched ... something along those lines I think.

Wishing you luck in love and life! ;)

Oooh, if you read ancient Egyptian love poetry you will find similarities! Have you ever been in love with someone, and at the point in your relationship where you are not sure of his intentions, but you really really sweat the guy? Or you both are desperately in love, and he is away from you?
Now imagine living in a desert, and desperately wanting water... You can see the parallel!

My theory on this; Water is the food of life, so as Love is food for the soul. Without each other its useless

You guys !!! It is quite easy and straightforward.

If you are in love you think too much and you forget to drink then you become thirsty.

What is rocket science in this.

C'mon.
They're thirsty for love.
It's not that big a deal really.
Way over-rated.
