i was involved in a fight club not to long ago, and the police got involved. We didn't do face hits and we did it on private property. No one got injured and they would like to charge is with misdemeaners. So is it legal or illegal?

Fight club is legal when its activities are registered with the concerned government agency and when the club is for purposes of fostering camaraderie and physical fitness only.

Paying customer, then NO!!! Then they need a license from the boxing commission (which you're not gonna get if its a bare knuckle brawl). I would also look out for any intoxication's of any kind (this can make the "contracts" illegal as a binding document). And make sure to have proper safety gear, and someone who is a "professional" (cut man, a trainer with a LOT of experience, etc. to deal with any KO's) Anyway, sounds like a bad idea. Just join a club!!! (real MA clubs) Are styles out there that mimics "fight club" (Brad Pitt style). Its legal and a lot safer.

It's illegal.
There's no such thing as consensual mutual assault.
Unstructured violence is inherently dangerous, that's why it's against the law.
Also, the property owner is liable for any/all injuries that occur, whether he was aware or not.
