The writers want to close down all the shows so their strike will be powerful enough to get them huge raises. Frankly I think her monologues are sort of silly most of the time ( the beginning of her show when she talks for 5 mins alone) so I dont miss the writers. Leno, Letterman, Bill Maher all make about 30 million dollars a year for reciting what the writers write so in that aspect I suppose they should get their share but strikes always come back to the consumer. In other words the sponsors will have to pay more and then the product they sell will be increased in price so its you and me who pay

The Writer's Guild is on strike and most shows don't have enough scripts for tv shows to continue. So what happens is that the stations have to play reruns. Most of the actors stop showing up to work, even if there are alternate writers who are not part of the Guild to write scripts. This is risky for the actors, producers, and new writers of the show, bc once the strike is over they will not want to support these people who did not support them during the strike. Ultimately, they want more money and can't come to an agreement.

They were hoping that Ellen would put her show in repeats, just like Leno and Letterman, and join the writer's strike to lend more support. She took one day off this week (November 7), then it was back to business as usual. They believed that Ellen was betraying her support by not choosing to go into repeats. I personally think that Ellen should write her own monologues if the writers are going to be this childish.

I would think there were writers in Hollywood chomping at the bit to get a position writing for one of the shows. Way to bite the hand that feeds you writers.
