Im 17 going to be 18 in april and im so scared to go to a obyn. Iv been having nightmares that past few nights about it and i think im more worried about being embarrassed with family knowing than actually going. At 18 is their any way i can go without my parents knowing or having to pay for it? My mom is more like perverted to make jokes and comments about going and she'll do it infront of people like my grandfather and stuff that really embarasses me and with my dad thats just really embarrassing. Help!!

It doesn't hurt, they know you're nervous and uncomfortable, and will try to make it as pleasant as possible. Remember, the docs do this all day, it is routine for them and they've seen it all. No need to be scared at all. They are some of the nicest docs out there. At 18 you can certainly go on your own and pay for it yourself and no one needs to know. Tell your mom to stop with the stupid jokes.

First of all....if you are only 17 and a virgin, why are you going to see an OB-GYN. Young ladies usually go at that age if they are sexually active or thinking of becoming sexually active so they can get birthcontrol, or having some sort of female issues. No nightmares needed.....there is nothing scary at all about it. When you go to see your ob-gyn have a list of all your questions and worries and have them explain everything to you first and make sure that you tell them how frightened and uncomfortable you are. I would not recommend that you go to the doc without your parent. It's nice to have some support.
