USA The moisture barrier on batt fiberglass insulation is supposed to be installed toward the heated side of the building. If insulation is installed in an exterior wall, the vapor barrier should be toward the interior. In the attic, the vapor barrier is on the bottom, and if in the ceiling of an unheated basement, it should be on top toward the floor above. By having the fiberglass face the exterior, it can breathe. If you place the vapor barrier toward the outside, moisture could collect in the fiberglass between the vapor barrier and the wallboard, which makes a nice home for mold to develop. Because you have it upside down. Turn it over and put the vapor barrier on the heated side of what you are insulating.

The moisture barrier always will be applied to the heated side. If done the other way, you would trap moisture and cause big problems.

keeps the insulation dry, stops moisture from entering the heated space. and
if it would get wet it would lose its insulating propertys
