In the NCAA - fighting gets you an 2 game suspension, 3 fights in a year can cost you your scholarship
In the CHL, most European leagues, and IIHF sanctioned tournaments - fighting is ejection from the game
The the latter, a LOT of double minors for roughing are handed out.
Having said that, fighting is a large part of the CHL

I don't see why some folks have a cow about the fighting that happens in a hockey... it is just part of the game... no big deal... it is a great place to let the guys let off a little steam... an hour after the game, the same guys that were fighing are most likely at the bar having a beer...
some of the nice(s) men i have ever met, are hockey players known for fighting... they are the kind of man you could take home to grandma....
long live hockey!!!!! hockey is the greatest sport ever!!!!

No, they build you up to actual fisticuffs (or however you spell that) in the minors. In junior hockey, the kid would be in a lot of trouble, and in international play, the player would be suspended for the rest of the tournament. I don't know about the NCAA's stance on it though.
Snoop, I think we're not on the same page on juniors. When I read it, I thought of kids who are still in high school, playing recreationally.

288, players face suspension at the NCAA level for fighting. I think it is usually a two-game ban. As far as the other mentioned leagues, junior fighting isn't encouraged but it happens. In international play, as 288 pointed out, suspensions are levied.
