I guess the fan works ok ? You have two hoses, under the hood, entering the heater at the fire wall. both of these hoses should be hot with heater temp control turned on. if not the temp. control valve, located on one of the hoses, is not opening. It is vacuum operated. May be vacuum leak, broken vacuum line or defective valve.

no the thermostate won't do that cause it have a bypass valve.
i don't think ur fan is working on the heater core , even if the heater is cloged u should still get some heat .
so check ur heater core fan "motor blower"

Your car has a heater element that looks just like your radiator. Probably it needs to be replaced, or a radiator shop might be able to rod it out.
