someone mention solder and something called shark bite on a question I asked about connecting brass to copper ... is it ok to just use plumbers tape or do they have to be joined some other way?

Do you mean PTFE tape. Used to wrap around threads before tighten, also comes in a paste. Then yes. They use brass because it's harder than copper alone. Brass being copper and zinc. They can be solder together.

If the fittings are threaded, you can use teflon tape for the joints. Sharkbite fittings are a type of compression fitting. For copper or brass that is not threaded, you will need to solder them.
