My old calculator will perform math in Base 8. That's great but is there a practical application for Base 8?

Also: I know that in Base 8, 1 plus 7 = 10. So, in Base 8, is "10" pronounced "ten" or "eight"?

Yes, there is as very practical application: Computers.

It is pronounced eight, because that is its value.

Yes, in computer technology, base 8 (octal) and base 16 (hexadecimal) are used extensivly along with base 2 (binary).
