I'm not sure what to expect. THis is peak season they say so it's gonna be hectic. Does anyone have experience working for UPS?

When you start as a package handler you are part time, all loading, sorting, unloading jobs are part time at UPS. You are in the union after the initiation fee is paid. Taken automatically out of the first couple checks. Sorry but you just don't transfer to other positions as you like at UPS. It is all based on senority. So if you want to drive full time, you have to wait until you are next in line. Depending on the center this can take a couple years up to ten years. I've been there almost 6 years now, 4.5 part time and 1.5 full time. What I remeber from the interview is having a "tour" of the building where you see others doing the job your appying for, then a general meeting consisting of the UPS history, morals etc... On the second interview they sat with all applicants individually and discussed what I wanted with my future at UPS and which P/T shift I would prefer (they were hiring for both). Then a bunch of paperwork, and I started a couple days after that. If your getting hired this time of year be sure to tell them you are interested in a job after the holiday season, called "peak". They hire alot of seasonals at this time of year. If you show everyday, and work your *** off they might keep you. I say show up because alot will quit or walk out...I'm not kidding they want semi's unloaded in under 50 minutes, then another and another. you may unload 5-7 trailers in one 4-5 hour shift if your fast. Thats what they want to see in future employees after the holidays. I've seen people walk out on the 10 minute break they give, on the first day. Stick with it the pay rises quickly once they keep you on. Last thing, if you are hired after the holidays prepare to be on call, most times it slows down so much after "peak" that the bottom senority guys are placed on call.
