It is an apex predetor and one of the largest feline species in the whole world. About 80% of the tiger population is made up of begal tigers. Bengal tigers are found in India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar and Nepal. The majority of the tiger population is living in captivity because it is an endangered species. Many of the subspecies are extinct and many of them are critically endangered. The tiger is the national animal of India and needs our help to survive.

The tiger (Panthera tigris) is a mammal of the Felidae family, the largest of four "big cats" in the Panthera genus.[3] Native to the mainland of Asia, the tiger is an apex predator and the largest feline species[4] in the world,[5][6] comparable in size to the biggest fossil felids.[7] The Bengal Tiger is the most common subspecies of tiger, constituting approximately 80% of the entire tiger population, and is found in India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar and Nepal. It has disappeared from much of its former distribution including the Caucasus, Java and Bali.

The tiger is an endangered species, with the majority of the world's tigers now living in captivity.[8] Several subspecies are extinct and others critically endangered. Tigers have featured in ancient mythologies and folklore, and continue to be depicted in modern films and literature, as well as appearing on flags, coats of arms and as mascots for sporting teams. It is the national animal of India,[9] and some other countries.

If you go to the Paradise Wildlife Park in Hertfordshire, you can pay (big insurance) to feed the most fabulous boy called "Bruno", by hand! If lucky, you also get to stroke one at the blunt end.
Apart from the text book stuff - a big cat keeper would be able to tell you a lot about them as characters and give you an insight into a tiger personality. Is there anywhere near you ? Totally awesome animals.
