I think marineland are best, its really just an opinion though, everyone is different,so you'll probably get answers with recommendations for all 3.

Are you sure that a canister filter is what you want? I've had a few and I've wound up with sponge pre-filters on all of them to eliminate frequent dis-assembly,all canisters are more difficult to maintain, when compared to other types. And this leads to less maintenance,(It's just human nature). If you put a large sponge on the intake and only use them as a bio-filter they work OK,but that leaves you needing a separate system for chemical filtration.
Look around a little more at some of the alternatives. Also if you do really good water changes every week,(at least 20%,aaccompanied by a good gravel cleaning),you won't need an expensive canister.

I had a similar question a couple days ago, no one had anthing great to say about fluval, I was told that eheim pro series are great, but are also expensive. I have been checking into the new marineland canister filters and they liike like they are real good, and heard they are easy to work with. Sorry I don't have any personal experience with them, I have HOB filters right now and plan on adding a canister here in a little while. Good luck.

ive never had neither brand so i cant say. i have a pennplax cascade 1000, rated for a 100 gal, running a 55 gal. water perameters are perfect, filter is extremely quiet, easy to maintain, set up is simple. about a 100 bucks online and they make other sizes with prices varying. been running about a year now trouble free and if you are having a conversation or watchin tv ya can hardly hear it at all. good filter.

I have moved from canister filters to an overflow box and a home made sump. This comes from about 25 years of experience. I would say that I have spent about 150 US dollars on it and I would rate it for about 250 gallons. email me if you have any questions on design. and if you really want a canister I would go with high end fluval.
