For a cheer fundraiser, two moms told us that each of us have to sell 10 tickets to our car wash at $5 each. Even if we don't sell all 10 of our tickets, we must come to the coaches with $50. If we don't bring the $50 to them, we have to do after school clean up for who knows how long. Between freshmen, JV, and Varsity, there are about 55 of us. That means 550 tickets are expeted to be sold. The carwash lasts 6 hours (with about 10 people working at a time). With these numbers, each car would have to be washed in oh, a little under 45 seconds. Come on now, let's get realistic.

What do you think?
I mean, I know life isn't fair, but this... is just crazy.

This was the first suggested category for the question.

I wanted to put it in polls and surveys, but those people are just plain lazy.

IMMEDIATELY bring this situation to your school principal. If he/she does not take action, notify your local school superintendent. If he./she does not take action call/notify the investigative reporter on your local TV news station (you could all reach the national news market with this one). This sounds like extortion at the least, and forced labor at best. And on minors no less ! Lincoln freed the slaves in 1865.

I would just guess that the six hours you figure the car wash to last may get to be a couple of hours longer in order to cover that amount of cars getting done. Also, lots of times people will buy a ticket in order to help you out with the fundraiser with no intentions of actually participating in the activity. So you stand a large chance of getting about half the people you will anticipate coming anyhow. What's the big deal? Are you girls too cute to work a little harder? Now that is what's just crazy! Get busy!

It's not unfair, it's just plain stupid. Someone talk some sense into the moms. They don't seem to know what the hell they're talking about.

Fundraisers are to raise funds. If you girls incur the costs, they're direct costs required to cheer. There's a difference. If you're being required to provide $50, that's a cost, with an option to raise some of the money yourself. I don't think it's right to expect participants to just contribute to a general fund for their hobby/sport. If there are specific things that need to be purchased, then the money you provide should be directly connected to the cost of the gear, fees, etc.

It has nothing to do with fairness, it has to do with you and your friends learning something. As much as you would love to believe your parents are wrong, what they haven't told you is people will buy your tickets to donate to your cause. They won't show up to get their cars washed. Sometimes parents act from experience without explaining the details to their kids which causes communication issues (aka misunderstandings).

Cheerleading is an expensive activity. It is too bad the schools don't fund it as well as they do the boys sports.

It's extortion and naked profiteering. Either they're complete idiots and can't do simple maths, or they know perfectly well, and they're willing to take advantage of you anyway. Take it to your principle. If they don't care then say you'll take it to the local or even national news.
