There are reasons which might cause this.
The Main one is you power setting is set to automatically shutdown if idle for specific time period (We hope it is this option)
Two other terrible reasons:
1) You picked up a nasty virus which has eaten your hard drive.
2) Spyware and or Malware have infected your computer and have taken over the OS.
My suggestion:
Go to Control Panel>Select Power Options> make sure you do not have the auto shutdown option selected. If you still have the issue after you have ensured the shutdown option is turned off, then you know you have a virus or spyware.
First thing you need to do is go to the website of your Virus Protection Program and update the Virus definitions.
Once you have done this, run your virus Scan, if the computer is Virus Free, then you might be infected with spyware or malware
Go to the website supporting your spyware/malware program and update the spyware/malware definitions. Once updated, run the Spyware program to check if there is any spyware.
If you still have issues after you have done the above, then your computer has been infected with one of the nasty viruses which the Virus programs do not have a fix for.

My guess is it's overheating. Make sure nothing is around the back of your computer, If it still does this, download this program (see sources for link) it tells you what the temp. of your motherboard and processor, if it gives you warnings, then either somethings wrong with your fan or you don't have a big enough one, if you still want to use the computer then run it with the case off. Don't go out and buy fans until you try this program though.

I've been experiencing the same sypmtoms with my machine. I have multiple anti-virus protections, However, I beleive tht an even deeper virus has connected to my machine! I'm just about ready to do a complete system restoration to wipe everything clean once again! If ou choose to do this to you rmachine, do not forget to make back ups of your important files that you do not want to loose!!! Full system restoration takes you completely back to the beginning!

Not a lot of info to go with, but your computer may be getting a BSOD but your computer may have automatic restart on system failure enabled. Try the following and if when your computer restarts again you get a BSOD, write down the error code and go from there. 1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties. 2. Click the Advanced tab. 3. Under Startup and Recovery, click Settings to open the Startup and Recovery dialog box. 4. Clear the Automatically restart check box, and click OK the necessary number of times.

If your computer is running too hot it won't give you a warning. It doesn't have its own smoke detector. It's probably a virus or you have too much spyware. Use Trend Mirco or any other virus deleting programs.

I had a similar problem last year. Somehow a piece of the fan unit broke and it wasn't cooling properly. When it got too hot, the computer shut itself off. We replaced the fan and it works fine now.

Hot, hot, hot
Clean all the vents especially the fan vents with an air duster (can of compressed air). If it is a desktop, turn off, unplug - open it up and clean inside as well with the air duster.

I would go onto safe mode and set it back to when it was working last and then that should sort it but after that, I would run a few scans, good luck.

My computer does this, I think it is because you are using it too much. Feel the back of it, and if it is hot, give it a break for at least one day and use the computer at you local library. You cant use it too much or else it will get overheated and shut itself down. Good luck!
