Familiarity breeds contempt.
However, experience breeds corruption.
We vote for the devil we know rather than the devil we don't. Why did President Bush get re-elected even though all Americans knew about the corruption, cronyism, wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, lies about getting into said war, a souring economy and overall bad behaviour by the administration?
The answer for many (51% of the voters) is that they would rather keep an idiot rather than elect a horrible candidate that couldn't keep on the offensive?
Democracy is flawed. The British system isn't perfect, but seems to have worked for longer and is more stable than ours.
Down with the bicameral democracy and go with the coalition governments!

Well we have a system that is rigged to get certain folks in office and too keep them there. The two party system, and its designed to be that way, The power brokers laugh at us, can't you see it, it exist. The cure is more open ballots, beginning at the local level. The ballot should be open to all comers if you are not a criminal, pay your filing fee and be on the ballot. And this should be the way it is for all elections. we need too have many Independent canidates running so as too have more choice instead of choosing between the lesser of two evils. Also lobbyist money should be banned from all elections. Only a citizen of the local area for local elections should be able to give and it should be limited so all can be involved and the same at the state level and then the federal level. One problem with lobbyist is that they can have multinational corporate money and thats not what we need. It should be citizens only. The system can be changed and cleaned up but you are going too have too demand it. otherwise the corrupt people will continue on the way it is now and laughing in your face.

Do not vote for corrupt candidates and those belonging to corrupt parties. The choice must be made disregarding party lines and affiliation with interest groups.

superb question. I rather have been baffled by utilising this comparable question for years. Why could all and sundry want the fox to guard the fowl residing house?? The extra the government oversees the extra corrupt they get. For some unknown reason liberals think of their politicians have a monopoly on intelligence.
