An element is a non-specific piece of something. Things can be broken down into its basic elements.
Anything and everything is made up completely of atoms. Nothing can exist without it being an organized group of atoms. Atoms are broken down into subatomic particles of positive, negative, and neutral charges. In other words atoms are energy. These particles can be further broken down into quarks.
In other words atoms is as small a you get and cannot necessarily be seen by the naked eye. An element can be seen by the naked eye.
