I brought my 12 year old daughter to the doctor. They had her wear a gown with only underwear and a bra underneath. When it was time for the private exam she said to stand. Then she remvoed my daughters underwear and examined her standing. Then the doctor said she wanted to look at her laying down. She also pulled her shirt down to look and feel her breats. Is this normally how doctors do this?

It was a physical not a gyno appointment. Yes she is developed and has her period.

The only thing awkward is the doctor pulling her underwear down for her... he should have had her take them down herself, while he was out of the room. Other than that it sounds pretty routine. If you weren't comfortable with the way he/she acted you could always switch doctors, however I dont see the need to.

yes ... the nurse would probably instruct the patient based on a routine 12 year exam. a child is examined more for like you'd look at a toddler / not necessarily a pelvic as the child/ mom was not prepared for this , but doctor is basically just checking if genetalia is normal in development . a breast exam is excellent to have done and hopefully the physician / nurse will teach daughter to do self exam and feel comfortable with all parts of her body. doctors try to have a little private time with the child / teen and may ask the girl if she has a period / is sexually active / understands safe sex / requests contraception . teens may not answer the questions honestly if the parent is in the room . i don't understand how a doctor manages this obligation to have a patient / confidentiality and exclude or include the parent .

The doctor pulled down the underwear? That seems strange but the rest sounds mostly normal if that is what she was there for.

Have you never been to the gyno? That's pretty standard stuff there.
