I just was just pulled over for a STOP sign violation like an hour ago and I am freaking out!!

First, from a scale of 1-10 (1 being very minor and 10 being very major), how major is a STOP sign violation?
and

How much does it cost to pay off or how can I get it fixed?? Do I have to go to court??

*I don't know if it's relevant, but this happened in California.

Stop sign violation - 1 -VERY minor. You weren't driving drunk in a stolen vehicle with a pound of weed in your car and a dead body in the trunk...that's a 10.

The fine for STOP SIGN -- violation of Vehicle Code 22450(A) is:
$158.96

If you request traffic school (to reduce or remove the points on your license) the additional fee is $32.00

(plus the traffic school will charge you approx. $20 to $25)

No court necessary unless it says it on the ticket. Just pay it and you're done.

Most of these type violations can be paid by mail unless you want to try to fight it in court. It will be the officers discretion as to whether you came to a complete stop or not. As far as points on your license, it is a minor violation. If you would have had an accident, it could be major to your insurance company. When the sign says STOP, that is what you need to do. I haven't seen a sign that says Slow Down and Proceed or This is just a sign so keep going.

If you have a driver's license, no matter what state you are in, then you should know what the traffic violations in that state are. If you did not stop completely for that stop sign, this is ironically known as a "California Stop"--at least it is here in Florida! How major it is depends on how much money you make vs how much or how little you mind spending on traffic violations--and how many points you have on your driver's license already. Here in Fl 16 points and your license is suspended for a year!

I'd watch those traffic laws if I were you.

Studbolt is correct. You break the law on numerous levels and complain like you're a victim. I sincerely hope you fight it. He didn't make up the stop sign ticket, it's about the hardest ticket to fight and you will lose and have court costs added to your fine. Please PLEASE fight it. Also, the best thing about this story is that pot charge, albeit minor, will still show up on your background check when any future employer does a background search. So enjoy being a janitor the rest of your life. You idiots who live your life around pot never cease to amaze me. Hope this helps.

A Stop sign violation ranks as a 10 in my book. They have a stop sign there for a reason. The reason is you may not be able to see oncoming cars. It's for YOUR safety, as well as others.

As for the cost, I don't know. I can't imagine it being too expensive. Speeding tickets are where it gets pricey. I don't think you have to make an appearence in court, but you might have to go there to pay your fine. Unless you can mail it in.

Obey the law. You're only gonna save like 30 seconds by not stopping. So just stop.

Good luck.

You're an idiot for smoking weed, you're an idiot for having the alcohol, you're an idiot for running the stop sign and you want to compound all that by being an idiot and contesting it. Just take your punishment and stop being an idiot.

Relax. On a one to ten, it is about a two. Most states give it one or two points, and the fine isn't huge. Look at the back of the citation to see how to pay by waiver. No big deal.

tell it to the judge

if you'd caused an accident by failing to stop, the other person wouldn't think it was 'minor'
