Nixon was an intelligent man who made some good foreign policy decisions and even some good domestic ones such as in the environmental area. He was also underhanded, dishonest and somewhat ruthless.
Bush can not claim any of Nixon's good points and has done nothing of benefit for the US or the world but has caused a great deal of harm.

Nixon did do irreprable damage to the presidency, while Bush has expanded the power of the office, so, by that criterion, alone, Dubya has out-performed Tricky Dick. And, that tends to be a standard that historians put great stock in. Bush II may well go down in history as a 'strong' and 'effective' president.
OTOH, Nixon got us out of an unpopular war, while Bush got us into one, and there were no attacks on American soil while Nixon was in the White House. And, Nixon began the process of normalizing relations with Red China, while Bush has brought us close to re-establishing Cold-War-like hostilities with Russia.
Finally, Nixon went on to become a respected 'elder statesman,' while Bush's ultimate legacy remains to be seen.

Nixon really wasn't that bad. He did a lot for American forign policy. He opened our relations with the Chinesse. Rather Henry Kissinger did. He wasn't really too bad when it came to Vietnam either. That was his successor Lyndon B Johnson that really escalated the war. In Nixon's time our involvment in Nam was more geared towards supporting the South vietnamesse instead of fighting on their behalf.
Now does that mean Bush was a better President than Johnson? Oh hell no! Bush is a global disaster and a national disgrace. That man is the sum of all the evils born of our flawed capitalistic mockery of a democracy. Even worse, he's too stupid to do the things he's done. He's just a puppet. The real dictator of the United States still lurks in the shadows.

Neither. At least Nixon was not willing to sign our government over to the UN for complete control of our country and impose a World Tax on us. Bush said he would sign into law the LOSTSEA TREATY if Congress passed it.

He is Nixon's problem: the man knew and understood foreign policy, but was so beset by demons that he basically fouled his own nest and Watergate nearly tore this country apart. When barry Goldwater felt Nixon was bad for the US, THAT is bad.
Bust stinks, but in a different direction, but don't fool yourelf, he is every bit as bad as nixon at his worst

Nixon was definitely not worse. His policies were well thought out and made sense, even to a liberal like myself. Nixon's problem was simply that the was paranoid and without much of a conscience. He did many bad things in terms of the law and constitution but his overall governance was competent. The same cannot be said for Bush and his disrespect for the law and the basis of our government transcends Nixon's.

You are a fine product of the liberal public school system.
No GWB will go down as one of the best.
Clinton was the next to last and the worse was Jimmy Carter.
You see the left owns defeat and yellow is their color of the non spine.

In spite of his word, Nixon was a crook! I cannot even imagine the pain he put his wife and daughters through. I'm old enough to remember when he embarrassed America before the whole world.
President Bush has had the bad fortune of being in office during an incredibly difficult time; of being given inaccurate information by his advisors; and of doing his best to keep the terrorists off American soil in spite of a liberal media hell-bent to destroy his credibility. History will look much more kindly on President Bush. Nixon will always carry the stink of his betrayal of trust!

I was very aware of politics during Nixon.
Nixon was a paranoid smart and savvy politician.
His paranoia was what brought him down.
While I disliked him for his lying to the public about his "secret plan to end the war", and some other republican shenanigans, nevertheless, when it came to international diplomacy, and working with a democratic congress, he was damned smart and knew how to compromise to get the job done. (I would never vote for him)
I would rather have Nixon as a 5 term president then 1 term of Bush.
Unfortunately we got Bush twice.
Thanks to an inept press that was fixated on smear and not on the issues.
Peace
Jim
