There are only two words defined by a single character. The f-word and the n-word. WHY is the “n” word so bad. Other races might get offended by stereotypical slang words, such as chink, g00k, honkey… but you don’t see them going as far as Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson (which is another subject entirely).

Other than the demeaning factor, what is so wrong with the n-word? I was watching “Blazing Saddles” just now, and the edited out that word, yet the word god-damned is still audible. If there is a racial divide, I blame Al Sharpton(Hypocrit), Jesse Jackson(Adulterer) and the media.

The question again is… What is so wrong with the n-word?

Well, Stephen if you aren't black, NO, you won't understand. And I'll say it again. In fact if you have to ask for that matter you probably couldn't understand even if it were explained really slowly and clearly, elementary style. By the way, my mother uses the word on occasion to identify other blacks; She's also a 70 year old black christian woman. So your whole theory about young ignorant kids using the word and so they don't know their history is garbage ... It's called acceptance and moving right along. Why is it that we get damned for doing that and damned for not? Remember, words are connotative as well as denotative, whether we like it or not.
Al Sharpton's half idiot - to hell with him. You can't dog Jesse cause he's an adulterer. Two outta three men are adulterers.
So what's wrong with the word? Nothing, if the connotation is innocent and welcoming. Black people just don't trust that whites can go back to using that word except this time use it with a friendly brotherly connotation as it is used within the black race itself. Why the hell some white folks feel so left out from the revamped terminology I will never understand.

You've asked a very good question. I am sick to the bone of hearing that we can't say that crazy "N" word but the rappers use it all the time and if you spend any time at all around black people, you'll hear it till you gag.
As far as Sharpton and Jackson are concerned, they are two of the biggest bigots alive and they pick and choose where they can stir up the biggest stink. And of course the liberal media is right there to fan the stench!
It's far worse to use God's name in vain than it is to use a word that demeans a person.

Ok, number one:all those words are offensive. My question to you is are you of an ethic origin? ( pretty good use of the English language, huh? lol) And I dont agree with the use of the n-word, by other people or by my own people. But to tell you the truth, I find the word " boy" , when used in an arrogant manner to be much more irritating

The "n" word is bad to use because it was the name that caucasians used for african-american slaves. and since there are no longer slaves, the word shouldn't be used because it is racial, just as the other words (honkey, red-neck, etc.). some african americans still call each other that word, but its only out of ignorance. just like when women call each other b****es, its not meant to be said but we say it anyway.

n-word using by young black people, without complete knowledge meaning of it ...

to the first poster: dude do you ever know what "N" word meant for you grandgrandparents boy, i bet you have no slightest clue,

"N" word means SLAVERY back in 1940 and before when america was in civil war. This way white peoppe called black people. It really damn shame that Black people don't know their own history, its stupid.

funny how pwoplw use this "N" word esspecially young kids w/out knowledge what hell that mean. and claiming"you aren't black, you don't understand" that is really STUPID and lame excuse.
