When I was in high school, I had various part time jobs because of the unneccesary things I wanted the my parents wouldn't buy (such as having my nails done, very expensive clothes and shoes, etc.) I was allowed to keep the job as long as it didn't interfere with my schoolwork, and if my grades slipped, I was to give up the job.
I would allow my children to do the same thing, with the condition of keeping their grades up.

My parents gave me the old family car which was a 1981 Toyota Corona back when I was 16 years old. I had to pay for my own insurance and gas. I had to get a job to do that. They were supportive of me. I only worked 20 hours a week as a hostess at a restaurant. I think more teenagers need to work so they learn to appreciate the value of a dollar. So many teenagers take everything for granted.

It really depends on the parents... It could go either way, they could feel like it was a good idea, and a nice way for you to earn money and learn responsibility, or they could rather you focus soley on your education... Talk to your parents about it, they are the only ones who can properly answer your question.
