No! The rich have always dictated throughout mankind; the only difference now under a democracy is that the newspapers can expose these rich crooks; where the likes of the Czars, French & English Kings would get away with murder because they thought they had divinity!!
Democracy or do you want a police state?

It all has to do with who is making the rules, who is running the game. Democracy requires that people pay attention to what's going on, that they be informed so they can make wise decisions in the voting booth. It requires a free press that actually reports the news, and a high literacy rate in society.

Those are the things we are losing in the US. Democracy can't work without them, it just becomes a power-play and the most powerful win, and we slide backwards towards feudalism.

Democracy is the best system there is.
You want a dictatorship? Move to Pakistan...

I think you may be referring to the flaws of capitalist 'free-market' ideology. I do support moderate socialism on the capitalist model. But the concept of people being able to vote for their representatives in government is not the reason that in Britain the rich get richer and poor get poorer. :]

when you investigate you realize that in many cases candidates are often related e.g. Obama and Cheney. They whole process is a designed fix-A subtle form of feudalism in which a few interrelated bloodlines hoodwink the masses into thinking they are being given a real choice
there needs to more swiss style direct democracy like that being advocated by Gravel- somebody needs to scrap those e-voting machines too.

The richest will always win in any political system - even communism had 'haves' and 'have-nots'. The upper class will always be upper class. And there is no political sytem in the world even writter, thought of or practiced that can work effectively and maintain its priciples... c'est la vie.

not really because it's all about the "freedom of being allowed to choose". democratic societies the people have the choice to choose to be/get rich whereas in other societies the people are forced to remain poor or uneducated and those in power have all the control. and not all rich people win. countries with dictatorship rule have fallen and so have their rich. nothing last forever in this world and that includes the rich

In any other type of country you are born elite or born poor, and thats how you stay.

yes you could say that ..Democracy is the principle of favouring or upholding equal rights.and don't see much of that ...then don't see much of it in any regime .....
but again , we all strive to be richer .just some or lots of us don't make it ...as " was in it and didn't win it " ....
