My new computer does not have a parallel or serial port on it and I need to connect a laser jet printer to it.

I don't think you can convert LPT port to USB, What you can do is : if your printer is new it must have a nic card, connect it to your router via cat5 cable and it will take an IP address (this is your printer IP address) open the DHCP in your PC or Mac and add the printer ,(chose adding Printer via Network not any port) it will show up in your list of printer to pick.

Check the back side of the printer,it should have another port for usb connection.

You can buy a add in card that has a parallel port, or there are USB/Parallel adapters.
