What type of anti-freeze should I be using in a 1997 2.6 audi?

I've heard it should be red / pink in colour.

How much should I use?

Only use G12 8AD coolant available from a VW or Audi dealer. Top it up until the correct level is achieved as marked on the expansion tank.
Dont mix any other type with this coolant as you may cause engine damage.
By using Audi coolant you wont have to flush and refill from scratch as the Audi coolant is safe for the lifetime of the car and never needs to be regularly changed.

The official Audi line is that you use their anti freeze that age it would be pink in colour if you add a different type it will turn brown. But if you drain the complete system and flush it then you can use any type of anti freeze suitable for alloy engines .The usual ratio is 50/50.

seem for the time era 'ordinary' on the field. Halfords, Tesco, any motor ingredient will sell it. Use a 50:50 combination with water. This capability will look after from freezing (the antifreeze will say to what temperature) yet only as significant it is going to inhibit corrosion interior the cooling equipment each and all of the year around. you're able to desire to flush out the coolant first no count number if it is outdated. it is definitely a summer time job needless to say.

Any good quality anti-freeze will be fine. If you get a concentrate, mix it according to the instructions on the carton, usually 50/50 but check. Don't use tap water, as it contains all kinds of impurities, buy some distilled water instead.

I would think any good antifreeze would work. I still prefer the Ethylene glycol stuff, but some people use the new eco friendly junk.

A 50/50 mixture of water to antifreeze gives best protection in both cold & hot weather. Wal-Mart, and the major parts stores carry it premixed.

Be sure to drain the old antifreeze and flush the system before putting in any new antifreeze.

it does not matter the colour of the anti freeze as long as you have the correct ratio to water if it has anti freeze already in it and has ben in the cooling system for a couple of years then drain the system and put fresh antifreze in depending on what makers anti freze it wil tell you the amount of anti freeze to water to add. if the antfreeze is not old i would just put a litre in and top the system up over the winter in diluted form of anti freeze. jock
