An enemy that IS you? Or is so much a part of you that you think it is you? (I call it an enemy because sometimes I find myself doing things that are detrimental to my well being; if you ask me why I just did that, I wouldn't have a good reason to give you!)

I understand how you feel I am very much the same. I have been my own worst enemy for ages.
I think you need to establish what you really need for a contented life, itemise what is wrong or lacking, change the things you can and as to what you cannot change accept the uncomfortable parts with serenity.

You must not fight an ‘enemy’ that forms a part of your psyche.
The enemies we carry with us, we should not fight, and they need our understanding. You must embrace the negativity you call an enemy and learn to channel those feelings positively.
Once you understand your feelings and learn to process your thoughts with both reasoning and balance before you act - you will have conquered the negativity you call an enemy.
Those negative thoughts (your enemy) have the potential to become your greatest allies.

Pay all your attention on fostering the friend inside of you. Spend all your time trying to be who you should be, and forget who you should not. Let "enemy" be a thing forgotten, and "friend" a thing always cherish and nourished.
A garden which is weeded only, will still only grow weeds, until new fruitful, and fragrant flowering plants are planted.
God bless.

Shine the light of your awareness onto it and the enemy will be under your control. As humans we have a dual nature, light and shadow. Keep a close watch on your shadow as its purpose is to keep you from being your true Self.

Accept yourself as you are. We have both friend and enemy within; by incorporating the separate parts into a whole can make you more balanced and whole.

Short answer: you can't
Long answer: You can't, you are what you are, and you will always be what your instincts tell you to be. whether you are consciously aware of it or not.
The chineese call it yin and yang. good and evil, alternate personalities, past lives or whatever you call it. You are always the sum of your two halves.

everyone has that part of them. you starve your self-enemy rather than feed him, you can't fight him you have to starve him of whatever feeds him and makes him grow. Then you take charge, ,rather than letting him take charge of you. both these work for me, i am self destructive otherwise.
