I'm Muslim but have adopted several non-religious holidays including Diwali (I have lived in India for several years as well). I think it's a great holiday, warm and festive, especially all the metahi. Yummy!

Well, i do agree that some people around the world do not know Deepavali. My sis's fiance staying in Melbourne do not know what was Deepavali until he came to Singapore with her in Year 2000. What i heard is South Indians call it Deepavali and North Indians call it Diwali. I do not know how far this statement is true.

Many are aware of Diwali these days.
The Internet has brought the World together and shrunk it up. Politicians would like our Borders to be rigid, but common man has transgressed them.

I always heard it called Deepavali too. I'm not South Asian, but I have many friends who are and am familiar with it. It's a fun, gorgeous, warm holiday, especially with all the lights!

i'm guyanese and i think that deepavali is a special and prosperous occasion where you light dias 4 the celebration of rams returning from the forest after 14 years

I don't know about Diwali. Maybe I'll look it up. All I know is that its a festival of lights that is usually celebrated in November.

I know it because they had an episode about it on the American version of "The Office"
All I know is that there's music and dancing and food. I think it's a festival of lights. Not really sure. I first heard about it from the first seaon Malaysian Idol winner, who is Indian.

many non Indian know about diwali. because lot of indian peoples are occupying in abroad,but our brothers not forget indian cultur,so many non-indian know about diwali.
