Sure. Life is divided up into three Kindoms, some say more... Plant, Animal and Protists. Protists are generally little things, so most of what you see on this planet are either plants or animals. Since a snake can't be a plant, it falls into the category of an animal. Then animals are further categorized according to their evolutionary likenesses. Obviously a cat and a horse are more closely related that either of them is to a snake. You'll learn more when you take biology in hs.
