third world experience?

i was thinking i want to go on an experience trip to a third world country for sometime between a month and 4 months. i was curious if there are any organizations that send people to countries to help in some way or offer some sort of services there and then provide a place to stay

The peace corps will send you away for 1-2 years. I think your best bet would be to look at different church programs.
There are also some programs online you can search for that will allow you to have that experience for as little as one week or so. I have heard them reffered to as 'pet a poor' programs, where well-to-do people go pass out rice for a few days and come home. These programs are good ways to do service and learn a foreign culture though. I think they would love someone to volunteer for 1 to 4 months.
