to society?...convicted felons can't vote, can't travel to certain countries, can't join the armed forces, can't become a cop, can't ever own a gun even if they weren't convicted of a violent crime, long-time legal permanent residents could be get deported if they do at least a year in prison(used to be 5 years before the 1996 laws), etc..and the list goes on. Does the U.S. government think that people can never change and so we must punish them for the rest of their lives? Are "good moral character" requirements in reality "perfection" requirements? It's like saying "We know you were 19 at the time of the involuntary manslaughter, but we don't care that you're 56 now and that you're a better person"...

That's why there are varying degrees of crimes...the 'Felony' label of a crime is supposed to be of the most serious crimes. If a Felon can 'do his time' and is let out of prison, he has the opportunity to still live a good life and straighten his life out to become a productive member of society...and some have. Unfortunately, a good number of them end up going back to the antisocial behavior, repeating the crime they were convicted of (or another serious crime) and then end up back in prison. So, giving them the full rights and privileges of a citizen who has not committed any crime is not right, nor is it in the best interests of the common good.

As far as child molestors go...I'd prefer they just have the death penalty...and remove them from society permanently.

Society loves to have someone to look down on, so they don't have to acknowledge their own faults. It is so much easier to kick around a convicted felon than have to face the reality that they themselves are far less than perfect. Truth in sentencing should apply for all crimes, from child molesting to murder to robbery to jaywalking and shoplifting. A premeditated crime is a premeditated crime. Once the penalty has been paid, the offender should have all rights restored. Second offense punishment for capital crimes should be quick and very severe indeed, and execution or life without parole for the third offense. Punishing someone for the rest of their life for one crime is unfair to the individual and society.

perhaps there could be a familiar of demonstrating reliable character or something, yet i've got self belief it relatively is born of the Protestant 'determinism' lifestyle - you 'are' a sort of man or woman, and you have shown it by employing your acts. You 'can' be saved in spite of the undeniable fact that it relatively is somewhat uncommon. The pilgrims felt that in case you have been destructive, there replaced right into a rationalization for it, to boot. in basic terms a philosophical observe. i think of it relatively is okay to assert that the burden is on you as quickly as you do something of a definite point, to tutor you at the instant are now no longer balloting/performing from a place unacceptable to society.

Most people that do evil aren't conscious that they are doing it, hence the problem. It takes a special kind of person to be in a position to help to actually help. Most people carry the name but not what it really implies. And in the end, the true implication is all that matters.
