What concentration of venom of Indian Cobra(naja naja) is lethal for man? How long does it take for a cobra bite to cause death? Does the cobra venom get oxidised in air? What is the time limit within which the antidote is effective? How does cobra inject venom into human body? Since it is a neurotoxic venom, how does it effect the nervous system? Are there any snake venom research centres in India/US?

There is no evidence to suggest that any of these snakes (with the possible exceptions of Hoplocephalus bitorquartus and Pseudonaja modesta) are dramatically less toxic than closely related (and already measured in the top 25) species.

As is faily evident, the list of the most toxic snakes is long overdue for an update.

A cobra also hunts using its venom like biting a rat, wait and then follow it with the heat trail (infrared) then eat the rat. So the poison for the rat is part of the food for the cobra.. What is ineresting is King cobra bites other snakes and make them die and then eat that snake ! So snakes venom is not poisoning it, rather it is there to feed and defend it ! Certain species had developed an antidote by nature to snakes venom and those species can survive even if it is biten by a snake with very minor alergic reaction or no reaction. The lethality has already been answered very well. There are at least two snake venom research centers in Florida alone: Miami Serpentarium laboratories in Punta Gorda and Reptile World Serpentarium in St. Cloud. As far as India is concerned, I'd be amazed if there were no venom research labs in either Dehli or Mumbai.

The cobra venom is very lethal. It depends on the quantum of venom that gets into the blood vessels and the proximity of the bitten part to the heart or brain.
The death may vary from 15 Hrs to two days depending on the above factors.Panic often hastens the risk while stubbornness delays the risk.
