Hey Tommy if anyone should be doing the thanks here it's us thanking you for serving our country. (My hats off to you) I also would like to say thank you to everyone else on here that has served. As for a patriotic song that makes my heart swell...I,m going with "The star spangled banner" The words in that song just make me glad to be an American.
Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watch'd, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
On the shore dimly seen thro' the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected, now shines on the stream:
'T is the star-spangled banner: O, long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
The part where it says "the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there." always brings a tear to my eye.
Thanks again...To all who gave their time and their life for our freedom. As Billy Ray Cyrus says "All gave some, Some gave all"

"God gave me the right to be a free American
For that precious right I'd gladly die"
Elton Britt, "There's a Star-Spangled Banner Waving Somewhere"
Other favorites:
"Mother I Thank You for the Bible You Gave" by the Louvin Brothers (from "The Weapon of Prayer" album, which is entirely songs about soldiers) -- a soldier carries the Bible his mother gave him in his shirt pocket, and it stops "the bullet aimed at my heart."
"I Wonder If They Every Think of Me" - Merle Haggard. After all his prison songs, when this one started, "There's not much a man can do inside a prison," you think, "Oh, another prison song," then you discover it's a PRISONER OF WAR song and the effect is just chilling.
BTW, I was in the Navy, too. I tell people I had the hardest job in the Navy: I was a yeoman, I had to babysit the officers! LOL

We are blessed to live in a country, where we have so many freedoms, (even if, sometimes they are taken for granted)!
But that is because some brave men gave thier lives for that priveledge, and they need to be remermbered (at least for a day)!
My favorite patriotic songs are:
Ragged old Flag
The Fighting side of me

I have a lot of favorites,Elton Britt's #1 on my list, thr ough they are all good,As a veteran myself,I salute all the US military,Those who gave all,and those who are still doing the job,not because they have to,but because they believe in what is right, and are willing to put themselves in harm's way, that we may have the freedom that we have,no it is not perfect, but it is and has always been the best in the world.
God Bless them all. 307th combat engineers,82nd Airborne
