Seeing as the only people who seem to use it are black it'll be interesting to see how this pans out.

Banning words does nothing to address the attitudes of the people who use them. There is also the paradox of the minority group itself claiming ownership of the derogatory word and using it in a non-derogatory context. LA has tried to negate this paradox by banning everybody from using it. People will, no doubt, object to having their right to free expression curtailed - but with that freedom should come responsibility to avoid offending others with negative stereotyping.

One- It takes away from freedom of speech.
Two- It's kind of funny that they don't ban words like "cracker" or "honkey" too.
Three- They're just going to make up a new word that will be just as offensive.
or.
Four- No one will even pay attention to that law. Seriously, if someone says it, for them to be charged, it has to be PROVEN that they said it. Unless there was a video, a tape recorder, or a lot of witnesses, it can't be proven.

It's a ridiculous ban. Offensive things are said daily, and people need to stand up and deal with it. Banning certain words or phrases won't end bullying, it won't end name-calling, and it won't end crime.

Salam Ignorance is ignorance and that causes discrimination and prejudice.

Humans are self corruptive and full of error. The blood of Adam A.s. brought all creeds and colors. They are ignorant rejects those who use and state that word. I have met people I really enjoyed and when they began to use that word, I threw them in the garbage and never looked back, they are with massive mental block! Most of them are rich that use that word in hate, they live in Upstate NY and they usually are the trouble behind most everything.

I think it's going to be impossible to enforce - and oddly enough, especially in the ghetto areas.

I doubt if anyone has thought that far ahead - they're just passing a feel-good, sounds-good ordinance.

Using any term that denegrates a person is not acceptable - but making it a matter of law just isn't sensible. What's next? Some other ethnic term, or ***** or brat?

It will solve everything. People will be holding hands dancing in the streets. Hatred and racism will be a thing of the past. We'll all be living in tubes, eating space food sticks and Tang, driving atomic cars and wearing aluminum suits.

I think it is a violation of free speech. I don't like the word, along with a lot of others that I also would not ban, because any violation of free speech is in dangerous territory.

Randy Newman said it best "I love L.A.".

I've found that a short, sharp slap to the back of the head works best at discouraging the use of the "N" word.

That's stupid.
Sure, it's really not a nice word, but banning it would be disregarding freedom of speech.
