There are some medical conditions such as rare disorders of the parathyroid that interfere with calcium being taken into the bones properly, so it stays in the blood. The doctor may be concerned that calcium is actually being withdrawn from your bones, making them weak. Whenever there is an abnornal finding like this, it is usually wise to do other tests to find the cause, but sometimes it is okay to wait and run the same test after a few weeks to see if it's still abnormal. Some temporary thing can make a single reading way off from what it should be, but there's actually no long term problem causing it. No need to treat something aggressively if there is a good chance it will clear up on its own.
