i need to know what type of soil to use and fertilization requirements. They are going to be indoor plants. Also if possible what type of pot will be the best to use.

Don't repot them unless you see roots coming out of the bottom of the pot. Birds only bloom when they have 7-10 plants crowding eachother in the same pot. crazy, but true.

They'll grow happily inside, prefer sunny south window. MiracleGro potting soil out of the bag will do when you do transplant them. I like adding 1 part vermiculite, 1 part sphagnum, 1 part pearlite to 4 parts miraclegro soil - I do a lot of planting and this stretches the soil. You don't have to add anything. Fertilize with miraclegro every 2 weeks in spring and summer, once per month during winter.

Use whatever pot you like. It should have drainage holes and a drip pan to save your floors. Don't allow them to sit in water, it will rot the roots.

Have fun!

Hi:
A clay or ceramic pot would work well and also make sure it has some holes in the bottom. You can put a saucer underneath the pot to catch the water.

Buy some light weight potting soil (no bark) and add some humas and vermiculite to the soil. Mix warm water with the soil as this is good for the roots. Keep on a good watering schedule and your bird of paradise plants should do great inside. You can even add a little organic mushroom compost to the soil as this is a great organic fertilizer and will last up to one year.

Hope this helps some and good luck to you. Browse through my site map on my website as this page may give you some more tips and techniques for any of your landscaping needs. I will also direct you to my landscape article section as this has information on growing from seeds and other topics.
Have a great day!
