Best shopping: San Francisco Centre @Market & Fifth and Union Square.

Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo will be open for the holidays (formerly Marine World). Similar to Great Ameria.
In San Francisco, I would go to:
Alcatraz--buy your tix before you come or it will be sold out!!
AT&T Park--Giants are done, but the tour is cool
Chinatown - try Dim sum at Gold Mountain on Columbus and tour the Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Company
Cable Car ride
Golden Gate Bridge
Point Bonita Lighthouse in Marin County
Fisherman's Wharf/Pier 39
Ferry Building (Located at the Embarcadero)
The Metreon
Jelly Belly Candy Company Factory Tour is in Fairfield
The Exploratorium is fun for all ages
Take the ferry to Sausalito or a Bay Cruise.
You wil lalso be here during whale migration. YOu can take a boat to watch the whales.
There is the Cable Car Barn and Museum, Missions all over the Bay Area, and lots of museums.

Dress in layers. San Francisco may be cold and foggy, but the south bay could be be in high 60s. Bring and umbrella or rain jacket too.

yeah. I actually live right around the corner from Great America. They closed I think last week. Uuum, I actually travel to San Francisco every month, so a few places you might want to go are listed below:

-If you want, you can buy tickets for a 49ers of Raiders game (lots of fun)
-Union Square (lots of shopping and good sights of the city if you go on the top floor of Nordstroms
-The Mall (i forgot where it was, but it's really big and new)
-The Golden Gate Bridge (you can walk across to Marin County)
-The Marina (beautiful sights of the bay and the golden gate as well Alcatraz)
-Ride a Cable Car (SOOO MUCH FUN GOING UP AND DOWN THE HILLS)
-North Beach (fabulous beach walks)
-Little Italy (great food!)

All of these places are my favorite spots. If you want, feel free to contact me at sunnycalifornia902@yahoo.com for more answers or if you have any questions.

Zillions of fun stuff but depends on your age really.

All ages:
Alcatraz, the Cannery & Pier 39 (all in one area)
AT&T Park
Chinatown - House of Nanking
Golden Gate Bridge
Discovery Museum - San Jose (tech oriented!)
Egyptian Museum - San Jose (cool)
Little Italy (next to Chinatown) - Grab a bite at "Steps of Rome" - SF favorite for tourist!
Twin Peaks - see breath taking view of SF
Palace of Fine Arts & Legion of Honors (museum)

Age 20 and up:
Ferry Building - like getting a taste of Napa!
Napa - wine tasting
Sausalito - eat and shop at the one-of-a-kind shops here.
Union Square - shop your heart out at some amazing stores. West Field shopping center is HUGE and food court is great (gourmet fast food)
Union Street - excellent shopping
Haight & Asbury - great small restuarants. Hidden treasures.

Its cold in Dec. Bring warm clothes and thick jacket.

Try TripAdvisor.com - they have forums and info. Also do a search for "San Francisco". There is a pass ["Citipass" or "Citypass", can't remember which] that can be worthwhile if you plan on doing several of the things included in it [museums, etc].

Your library would have good guidebooks by Frommer and Fodor about things to see/do, and they have ideas for things to do on a budget. They both have websites, also.

San Francisco is a great city to explore, though I've never been in December - might be kind of chilly!
