I live in an apartment building and the people below me like to play their music to a point you can hear it in the next room. I have had management up here to listen so I wasen't making frivolous complaints. I wouldn't mind so much except they have their music in the bedroom and they play either at 10:00 a.m. or 11:00 p.m. I stomp on the floor but it seems like he/she turns it up more.

Any suggestions before I call the police and does anyone know if there would be any legal action you can take?

The management company should send a 3 day notice to cure to the tenant explaining that if they don't keep the music to an acceptable level that they will evict or fine them. You have the right to quiet enjoyment of your home, if the management company does not do anything then technically they are violating your lease terms by failure to cure.

The only real recourse you have if that fails is to call the police and have them cited.

It's annoying and frustrating, I lived with a neighbor next door that did the same thing for years before they got evicted, meanwhile I lost sleep, it affected my relationship, my work and my life, unfortunately I OWNED the condo so I was stuck. When complaining got me no where I called the cops all the time.

Go downstairs and talk to them first. Be nice. If that doesn't work:

Take your speakers and put them face-down on the floor above them. Surround them with pillows around the floor so that the only sound that escapes is downward. Get up at three in the morning and crank it up as loud as it will go. Leave it for five minutes and turn it off.

Keep it up till they get the point. Yeah, it'll disrupt your sleep cycle. So be it. Be sure and tell the manager that since he won't do anything, you will. That way when he gets their complaint he already knows what's going on.

I'd talk to the other neighbors, and if they are bothered too, all go the manager to complain.
