My middle name is Francis, the reason being that when my mother was expecting me in 1941, her sister in law had four sons gone off to war.
One was called Francis, she asked my mother if she would give me that as my middle name in case her son did not come home.
Luckily, all four came home after all surviving D Day.
Many years later I asked my cousin Frank had he ever been wounded during the D Day landings, he replied "I was once shot in the bum, guess which way I was going"?
