We had people coming over for dinner. Went to great lengths to make it a good dinner party, got out the real silver, candles and flowers on the table, antique Irish linen (inherited), table cloth. The antique red and white wine glasses.

Starter, fresh salmon on dry crust bread with lemon cut all fancy, Coc au Vin, with veggies, and sorbets for in between. Strawberry mousse cake baked by me.

They arrived and we were having pre drinks i the lounge, and the got to talking about food. They said they NEVER eat chicken and hated it!!!

After my hubby and I were first married back in the mid
1970s, we expected company for dinner one night. In the
morning, I put a chicken in the Crock Pot and turned it on
low. Then I went to work. When I got home. I opened the
Crock Pot to check on the chicken, hoping it would be done, what I got was an overdone mass of chicken bones. The meat had fallen off, and was in a pile at the bottom of the Crock Pot. What a mess! Naturally, I couldn't serve it, so we called up and ordered a pizza.

The invisible dinner--I cooked a huge pork rib roast, potatoes, carrots, onions, gravy. My company showed up--I opened the oven and there was nothing in there. I went to the basement and there was my 13 year old son moaning on his bed, he had eaten all but 1/2 of a potato. He said, oh I was just going to take a taste and it was so good I couldn't quit. Still had a huge salad so ordered pizza. Oink on that kid!!

I don't have a funny story, but my uncles told me that when my Mom and Dad were married she was supposed to cook the marriage dinner. As everyone on my Dad's side of the family were Greek they expected a terrific traditional Greek dinner. However, my Mother was English and when it came time to serve the meal she served beef and kidney stew with boiled beef heart on the side. Probably the reason I can't stand English food today. She was always cooking beef and kidney pie.

This was not the worst cooked, but definitely the worst served... My mother in law who was a cleanliness fanatic and my husbands sisters and brothers come to our home for a roast beef dinner.. I worked so hard, I was so young, and wow, the beef looked great..

Everything was ready to go, when ooops, the roast fell off the big fork I had it on to place it on the serving plate, it rolled like the "run away pancake" all around the kitchen floor with my dog chasing it..I grabbed it before the dog got it but of course my mother in law saw this happen and decided she had gone off eating meat lately..

My sister in law said, just wash it off, it's fine.. so we did.

Wasnt really for company but I was working at a place that served lunch buffet and the old guy that owned the place wanted to make goulash. I got all the ingredients ready and he was in charge of cooking the noodles and put them in before the water was boiling and they came out awful and made me add them to the rest of the ingredients and it was really bad. No body ate it and all came back on their plates. He blamed me of course.

Unfortunately for me, ANYthing I cook would be a worst meal! I happily do the dishes while my husband does the cooking.

That had to be in the mid 70's when I was on my anti-meat/turkey boycott rage. I steadfastly refused to do the regular meat thing & my old man thought I was kidding, so he invited everyone over for Thanksgiving Dinner....Surprise! No meat...just home made bean burgers. I spent hours preparing them & I thought they were good! It's been over 30 years & some people have NEVER forgotten about it. That's why I mention it today...someone recently reminded me about it!

I cooked my gourmet-cooking boss a birthday cake. She is hypoglycemic so I used Sugar Twin. The cake turned out lopsided, which was OK, but it tasted like poison! Hummm.... maybe next time... LOL

My mom was coming to visit from out of state so I made a cake for the occasion. When I took the cake from the pan it fell to pieces. I just put them together as best I could and covered the lump with icing. lol It tasted fine though and we laughed about it.
