I can't remember where I read this but it was the womans first turkey and when she wasn't looking someone stuffed the turkey with a cornish hen. When she discovered it, they all said, "The turkey was pregnant!" and she was heartbroken. Then they told her the prank.

That is so cute, love it.
For the last 5 or 6 years I am the one that has been cooking the turkey. I have never had a problem with it, not once (knock on wood). Well last year being my first year in this tiny travel trailer of mine, I was going to bake a turkey for my parents and I. My stove in here is way to small to cook a whole turkey. I was going to have to use my toaster oven to cook it, (even smaller). I had no clue as to how I was going to bake this turkey. So about a week before Thanksgiving, I took Mr.Turkey out of the freezer. I took him to my dads work shed. I got out the saber saw and cut him into fourths, (with a new and clean blade of course). I was then able to cook the turkey in my toaster oven a fourth at a time. I even cooked him in small oven bags. He came out so tender and juicy. What we didn't eat then, I "de-boned" and froze the rest until a later dated. I will be doing our turkey this year the same way. The one thing that we have never done nor will we ever do is put the dressing inside the turkey. My dressing still has the turkey flavor because when I make my dressing, I always use the broth from the turkey in my dressing. And still have enough broth to make my gravy.

I must have cooked my first turkey about 27 years ago. At the time, I did not like dressing, so there was no reason to think about stuffing the turkey. When my parents came over to eat, my Mother asked what I did with the neck and inners? She said she used them for her dressing. I said my turkey hadn't come with the extra parts she described. She reached into my nicely baked turkey with her fork and pulled out a bag with turkey parts in it.I was embarrassed!! But, the turkey was still edible and that was the main thing.

I can't think of a funny story. But I do remember the first time I
cooked a turkey and we'd moved out of state and away from
the family gathering. One of my good friends and her husband
came down to have Thanksgiving with us while they were
going to spend time in that area. And she came in around
5:00 AM and instead of going to bed, she stayed up and
helped me get started cooking diced onions and celery, etc.
for the dressing. I was like a zombie by the time that lack of
sleep caught up with me. But I knew I couldn't go to bed. We
just drank more coffee and prepared dinner for a crowd
coming over. We had one other couple who also came down
to play tourist and stay with us. So here we were with two
extra couples and our kids had already given up their beds.
So we ended up putting them up at the couple of friends
who lived there in that same city. And we had three couples
besides ourselves that year. I was so exhausted by the time
dinner was ready around 1:00 PM that I was too tired to eat.
And I zonked out on the couch while everyone was eating, and there I was sleeping in my bibbed apron and slept thru
much of the day. When I woke up, everyone had eaten and
having cigarettes who smoked. LOL. I'll always remember
that Thanksgiving. As I almost slept through the entire thing.
And I still wasn't hungry when I woke up. LOL. I never again
started my turkey so early, nor did I ever plan a dinner for
that early in the day. I learned my lesson well. LOL

Well, the family wanted to do something different for our Thanksgiving meal one year. There were several ideas including venison, quail, and surf n' turf (my idea). But the one that we decided to do was something my son suggested that I never heard of before called a "turducken". This is a de-boned chicken, inside of a de-boned duck, that's inside of a de-boned turkey. I really wanted the surf n' turf because I love seafood, but I went along. After complaining to my hubby about our selection, he finally told me that surf n' turf is not going to happen, so enjoy the turducken. So Thanksgiving Day we got every thing together and had the family over for our turducken meal. Before the meal, we had some wine and just enjoyed our family being together. When it came time to eat, my hubby brought the the turducken into the dining room and I decided to announce what the main course was. I guess I was still thinking about the surf n' turf that I wanted and somehow took the word "turf" and inserted it into the word "turducken", execpt the "d" somehow got dropped. Well, the entire table just froze and I must have turned 10 shades of red. But, we laugh about it today as one of my crazy slip-ups on Thanksgiving day!

My Thanksgiving story doesn't involve the turkey, but once when my dad popped the champagne at dinner, the cork shot up and hit the ceiling, ricocheted off and hit my grandfather on top of his bald head, and he nearly had a stroke laughing.
That was about 30 years ago, the best Thanksgiving ever.

it used to be that you could buy some really cheap turkeys either for, or after thanksgiving, and my mother being very frugal would buy them, and put them in the freezer, but as mush as we enjoyed turkey, we started looking for other ways to cook them after a while.
that is when I came up with the idea of barbeque, sliced off the breast, and barbecued them, later I developed a barbeque sauce for turkey, and had a hit on my hands. almost 40 years later, my wife still tries to get me to remember that sauce.

We tried to make Turkey loaf instead of whole Turkey because we didn't want whole Turkey to eat this year.
We stuck Turkey in this metal meat grating machine.
After five minutes it all got messy and stuck, so we gave up and had some Denny's that day.

12 guests, spent all day in kitchen, prepared the presentation, everything beautiful, table set up on patio full out event style..the diningroom table was the complete buffet , self serve. The best looking turkey I ever cooked...picture perfect...Sittin outside, facing the diningroom table, I looked up during the grace to see my standard poodle UP on the buffet table with the entire turkey in her mouth, ready to make a bee line for the nearest exit! I quietly got up, quietly went in and took the turkey out of her mouth, placed it back on the carving board, quietly locked the biotch in the bedroom and returned to the table, none the wiser..I said nothing..NOTHING! Diner was great! To this day, I cannot help but die laughing everytime I picture that damned dog with a whole cooked turkey in her mouth...she was sooooo very proud of herself! Phil
