When looking at someone elses problem you try to solve it by using your brain and not involve emotions.

Also, I think that when looking at someone elses problem, its like looking at a maze from above so its easy to figure a way out, but if its your own problem, its harder to see the bigger picture, its like being inside the maze.

This is an excellent question.

I'm Master's educated, I do psychotherapy with children, and I think I have a pretty high IQ and EQ..... but I can't even control my own anger when I'm in a hurry and a red traffic light stops me. How am I supposed to help kids and families when my own emotions become uncontrollably intense from time to time?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy would probably say that it's because we are emotionally attached to the outcomes we want. We have a rational mind, an emotional mind, and a wise mind (which combines the two). Everyone is susceptible to their emotional mind taking over completely, and their thoughts become dictated by the way they experience the world.

Psychoanalysis would probably delve into psychological defenses to explain this.

Cognitive Behavior Therapy would say that we all harbor some degree of thought distortions that represent the way we perceive the world, the future, and our own selves.

Sometimes people would rather solve others problems because they get some sort of happiness out of helping others. Most people feel that if they cannot help themselves they can help others.

I'm a good example, I have lots of my own problems, and Its taken me a while to deal with them myself, but I feel if I can help others, then I can do some good in life.

We're too close to our own problems to be objective about them. Other people's problems can be seen from a distance and the solution is much clearer.

sometimes you can't see what's right in front of you. a lot of people find it hard to be introspective because it's harder to deal with your own issues.
