Because there is still bacteria growth, and your teeth are the most vulnerable at night, because saliva is the number 1 thing that kills bacteria in your mouth and prevent tooth decay, but at night, saliva production goes down dramatically and thats when your teeth are the most vulnerable and that's why you brush at night. As far as the morning, it's to further kill bacteria and because your breath stinks. FYI mouth wash isn't good for your teeth, becauseit hampers saliva production by drying your mouth out.

Simply put- You're cleaning out all that gross crap that's been rotting in your mouth all night.
Not putting you down, though. I usually wait until after I eat in the morning to brush for the first time.
