This is not really a problem with Blue Peter, it is a problem that is endemic in all of the BBC.
Although they get an enormous amount of funding from the public through licensing, and therefore should be content to make good quality 'honest' programmes which may not necessarily achieve the highest audience ratings, they are still geared to manipulating audience figures as though they were in competition with the commercial companies, who are driven by shareholders need to make a profit.
Frankly, its about time that the Board of Governors of The BBC, were also brought to task for having allowed this institutionalised deception to develop and prosper within the organisation. They have been getting substantial rewards for ostensibly supervising the activities of the BBC for many years and its time they did something for their money or were held responsible.
The BBC has acquired an enviable reputation not just in Britain, but around the world also, of being honest, reliable and trustworthy, it should not be allowed to degenerate to a level of international distrust where it becomes just another nail in Britain's coffin.
Although the Blue Peter affair is in itself of little importance, the effect such stories have on peoples view of the organisation as a whole is considerably greater. So it is now important that efforts are seen to be being made to rectify the problem.

I was never an avid Blue Peter watcher when I was a child, what the presenters could do with double-sided sello tape and plastic used to put my efforts to shame.
I still do find it an educational program but I was shocked with the latest scandal about Blue Peter. I am now pleased that when my child asked if we could ring up to enter all these competitions on these shows I said no to her.

Someone on our local radio station last night said that he used to work for the Blue Peter "team". All the men were gay, all the women were childless, and they all HATED children and he left when it degenerated into a "Find someone who's just written a book/made a film/got a lead in a West End play and interview them" type of programme because they couldn't find anything better for the kids to watch !
(In case anyone thinks I'm telling porkies, go to the LBC website and download the podcast for Friday 9th, 7pm-10pm and then listen to it for yourselves) ! ! !

The constant failure in programmes of this nature is that the TV companies sub-contact much of the work and use it without proper supervision. I have long suspected that there is screening of winners in all phone ins. Have you ever heard of someone with a very strong Liverpool Scottish or Welsh accent win
