Don't you just love it?
Now the government wants to control what we eat!
I saw that one coming a LONG time ago.
Two days ago I saw a news article from south Los Angeles interviewing a woman who is demanding the government FORCE the business community to add grocery stores and quality restaurants to their community .
.she said "There are too many fast food restaurants and obesity is a problem". The fact is, there are no quality restaurants and good food stores selling fruits and vegetables because NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE ARE BUYING THOSE FOODS!
WHAT? Are now to expect the LAW to FORCE a business to install a store or restaurant in a location where they will LOOSE MONEY continuously?
If those people wanted to eat properly, they would.
IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT or my fault and I'M NOT PAYING FOR IT!

This has been talked about for the last ten years. That's how you break down the resistance. Soon, it looks like a great idea. Another ruse for a government money grab. In similar fashion to lotteries being the end-all-fix to education funding, fat taxes will not fix anything.

good idea.
here's how it could work -- tax all foods based on their calorie content. Then give every citizen a monthly check equal to the tax on 2800 calories per day. [or whatever figure scientists agree on as "enough"].
fairly obviously, if you grow it yourself, it won't be taxed. If you do sell what you grow or raise, the tax is due.
those who consume well beyond what is needed will pay the tax. then we could use the tax to pay for their medical needs and thus lower health insurance costs for everyone.

Same idea would probably work wonders for recovering the costs associated with alcohol and smoking, wouldn't it?
your auto insurance might even go down if the alcohol industry was collecting enough tax to pay for the estimated 1/2 of serious accidents that are caused by drunk driving.
same with your health insurance. as well as the taxes we all pay to subsidize the hospitals who provide "free" care to poor people who are injured by alcohol, tobacco, and/or obesity.

That would be awesome- it would finally mean fatties having to take responsibility for their enormous, horse-sized arrses and their continual visual assault on the thin population.
I would definitely favour it.
AS a bonus, it would also financially cripple the feminists and lesbians- whose thighgs usualy rub together with such friction as to be possible ignition sources for the Californian brush fires.
That's why Governor Arnie banned lesbians and femmos from wearing corduroy trousers- to much friction heat involved.
Tax the fatties! No fat arrses!

gambling is now being called the 'last frontier' of tax revenues.
once every city has it's own casino, i wouldn't put it past them.
of course, they could do things like control and tax marajuana production, the same way they do alcohol.
but then the phony liars that are our 'leaders' wouldn't be able to pretend that they are tough on crime.
look for that big mac tax in the not too distant future...
